Flu Cases Surge Nationwide: Urgent Call for Vaccination in El Paso
Flu activity is sharply rising across the United States, with the CDC reporting over 7.5 million illnesses, 81,000 hospitalizations, and 3,100 deaths this season as of December 20. Hospitalizations have doubled in just a week, with over 19,000 admissions recently. The predominant strain is Influenza A(H3N2), and a new variant is contributing to the surge. Vaccination rates are declining, with only 130 million doses distributed this season, which is 13 million fewer than last year. Health officials urge residents, especially those unvaccinated, to get their flu shots to mitigate severe illness and death risks.
