Community Demands Freedom for Award-Winning Mariachi Brothers Detained by ICE
Three young mariachi musicians from McAllen, Texas, have been detained by ICE for nearly two weeks, prompting growing calls for their release. The brothers, Caleb (14), Joshua (12), and their 18-year-old sibling Antonio, were taken into custody along with their parents after entering the U.S. illegally in February 2023. This case has drawn attention from local leaders and immigration advocates who argue that the detention of children in such facilities is unjust, especially given the brothers' recognition for their musical talents on Capitol Hill. Protests have emerged, and lawmakers like US Rep. Joaquin Castro are actively seeking to assist the family, highlighting the need for reform in immigration enforcement policies.
