Democratic States Challenge Trump Administration's Transgender Healthcare Restrictions
Eighteen states led by Democrats, along with Washington D.C., have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over a new policy that seeks to restrict transgender healthcare for minors in federally funded hospitals. The policy, announced by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., aims to prohibit hospitals from providing gender-affirming treatments, such as puberty blockers, to transgender youth. The lawsuit argues that this policy violates the Administrative Procedure Act and interferes with Medicaid administration. Advocates emphasize that healthcare decisions should be made by patients and their families, not politicians. The states involved include Oregon, California, New York, and others, highlighting a significant legal battle over transgender rights and healthcare access.
