Federal Investigation Launched into Brown University's Campus Safety Measures
Following a tragic shooting that resulted in two deaths and nine injuries at Brown University, the U.S. Department of Education has initiated an investigation into the university's compliance with the Clery Act, which mandates safety standards for institutions receiving federal student aid. The inquiry will examine possible failures in campus security, including the adequacy of surveillance systems and the timeliness of emergency notifications. Brown's president, Christina Paxson, has committed to an internal review and improving security protocols. The university has until the end of January to provide relevant records to the Department of Education, which could face penalties if violations are confirmed.
