First Deportation Flight from U.S. Arrives in Paraguay This Thursday

Paraguay is set to receive its inaugural flight from the United States carrying 25 deported migrants from third countries on Thursday, as part of a bilateral immigration agreement. The Commission for Stateless Persons and Refugees (Conare) will evaluate each case to ensure compliance with established criteria before admitting individuals. The U.S. will provide a manifest of the migrants 72 hours prior to the flight, allowing Paraguay to review the information. The migrants, who are expected to be Spanish-speaking and from the region, will have the option to either stay in Paraguay or return to their home countries. This initiative is part of a broader effort to manage asylum requests and curb abuse of the asylum system, following an agreement signed in August by the U.S. State Department.
