New Exhibit Highlights the Artistry of El Paso and Juárez Sign Painters

A new exhibit titled 'El Otro Muralismo: Historical and Contemporary Sign Painting in El Paso and Ciudad Juárez' opens on July 11 at the El Paso Museum of History, showcasing the vibrant hand-painted signs that reflect cultural connections to Mexico. Curated by Anne Giangiulio, an associate professor at UTEP, the exhibit aims to celebrate the often-overlooked artistry of local sign painters, including veteran Sergio Chavez and emerging artist Monica Chavarria. Giangiulio has conducted interviews with multiple sign painters to document their stories, with a book titled 'Rotulistas: Sign Painters of El Paso' expected to be published next year.
