Astronomers Discover Ancient Galaxy Remnants in Milky Way's Stars

A recent study has revealed that a cluster of unusual stars may be remnants of a dwarf galaxy, named Loki, which the Milky Way consumed approximately 10 billion years ago. This finding could significantly alter our understanding of the Milky Way's evolution. The researchers identified 20 metal-poor stars located about 7,000 light-years from Earth, suggesting they originated from the same ancient galaxy. The study highlights the importance of these stars in unveiling the history of our galaxy and indicates that the Milky Way's growth involved merging with smaller galaxies. The research utilized data from the European Space Agency’s Gaia telescope and observations from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope.

The initiative runs from May 26 to July 31 and will provide breakfast and lunch at select IDEA campuses. Meals must be consumed on-site, addressing the needs of the nearly 1.7 million Texas children facing hunger. Breakfast will be available Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with closures on federal holidays. This program aims to support families by ensuring children have access to nutritious meals when school is not in session.
